I just walked in the house from what shaped up to be a 15 hour day into the office. I cleaned out my full car, gave the kids their Wendy's Frosties (Mom's guilt...ice-cream works) and walked the dogs. When I walked into the kitchen I found school bags, soccer bags, lunch totes and dirty clothes on the floor. I was then told I needed to pay for a soccer jacket at that very second and that the house was very cold. I was feeling a little annoyed and hangry!
Seeing it was just an ordinary day I cleaned out my computer bag and organized my stuff for my early Friday morning and noticed an envelope on my monitor stand. I sat and opened up a nice simple Thank You note. Instantly my mood changed and it made me smile. The note wasn't just for me but for my U.S. team too. I got myself on What's App and shared that around with everyone. Not only was I smiling but my team was too. Crazy how our Thursday night moods changed.
Instantly I thought about my friend, mentor and Principal Mike Kane. His signature "thing" was sending thank you notes and wooden trinkets he carved. He had to have sent thousands during the time I knew him...I can't imagine how many total he sent in his lifetime. When he was dying of cancer he gave me so much life advice I was in Mike overload. He told me once"Sara, a Thank You note goes such a long way, it takes very little time to write one but it shows so much about your character" I then thanked him for all the notes he had sent me. I giggled because I told him his hand writing was hard to read but I assumed what he was writing about me was good!
So to the awesome human that wrote and left my team a thank you note you are a class act. Please spread your wisdom.
Thank you Mike!
