I have been a morning person my entire life. I wake up with a smile even on days I know could possibly suck. I have always felt if you start your day with the glass half full you have a better shot at having a good day. There is nothing more peaceful than waking up early to a completely quiet house with that first cup of coffee.
The issue is I have two children that absolutely hate the mornings. Mainly because they stay up way too late and don't want to go to school. I start with a friendly "good morning" or hey "rise and shine you need to get up for school". My voice is calm and soothing. At this point I have already walked the dogs, made lunches, charged their chrome-books and got them breakfast. Unfortunately especially my son this tactic doesn't work. I am then forced to yell and occasionally use words I probably shouldn't. I am then required to go through the list of why his life going to school is way easier than life of a working adult. It's the same routine day in and day out.
Here is how I have learned to solve it. Middle school children especially my two do not like to draw any attention to themselves what-so-ever. I bring my kids to school because they are spoiled and hate the school bus. So on mornings that they cause chaos I simply keep as quiet as possible as I drive them to school saying very little. As we approach the drop off area and they open the door to get out...I have a song already picked out on YouTube that I then turn to a very high volume. I then start singing, smiling and waiving. My choice is typically a Springsteen song with a loud band where I need to go a higher pitch. If the morning is extra bad feel free to throw a few fist pumps out the driver window. Don't be afraid to pull to the side and get out and drop a few dance moves if it's absolutely necessary. Both my kids know I will absolutely do that without batting an eyelash. Then you drive away hoping tomorrow will be a much different scenario! This...my readers is solid parenting advice 101.
Hope you kill your Tuesday and had a little morning laugh!
